April 21 (Thursday): Movie "The Hunt for Red October", 3pm, GSC

red october movie

The Hunt for Red October is a 1990 American submarine spy thriller film directed by John McTiernan, produced by Mace Neufeld, and starring Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, Scott Glenn, James Earl Jones, and Sam Neill. The film is an adaptation of Tom Clancy's 1984 bestselling novel of the same name. It is the first installment of the film series featuring the protagonist Jack Ryan.

The story is set during the late Cold War era and involves a rogue Soviet naval captain who wishes to defect to the United States with his officers and the Soviet Navy's newest and most advanced ballistic missile submarine, a fictional improvement on the Soviet Typhoon-class submarine. A CIA analyst correctly deduces his motive and must prove his theory before a violent confrontation between the Soviet Red Fleet and the United States Navy spirals out of control.

April 27: Tour the Bakke Coffee Museum, 2pm

expresso machineDo you have an espresso machine like this in your kitchen?

The Bakke Coffee Museum has a unique collection of espresso and coffee machines, grinders and other coffee related objects, offering a unique view into the history of coffee.

The core of the collection is over 300 commercial espresso machines, which range from quirky and eccentric to beautiful pieces of art. There are not many books on espresso history, so it is the machines themselves that contain the story, each one revealing a unique aspect of the evolution of espresso.

Besides the tour, rumor has it that we will be served some custom-made coffee!

June 22: Help Build Tiny Homes at Hope Factory, 9am-2:30pm

Volunteers from the Greenwood men's group will go to the Hope Factory to help build tiny homes for the unhoused. The more volunteers we have, the more fun it will be! No skills required.

We recently toured the Hope Factory and found it to be very interesting. So this time, rather than just looking at how tiny houses are made, we will actually be creating them. You won't want to miss this unique experience!

If interested, contact Fernando or Bruce as soon as you can. We need to know how many will be participating because we are limited to 12 people.

More info and transportation details coming soon.
