This is about being older in general, not about individual difficulties. Those are a separate consideration.
Our small intestine doesn't absorb nutrients as well as we used to, so we get less from our food.
There are roughly 47 essential nutrients (15 vitamins, 20 minerals, 21 amino acids, and two particular oil molecules).
These are called "essential" because being entirely without one long enough will take us away. Fortunately, supplying some of all only requires three bottles, not 47. Good ways to get these are listed here.
a. "Multi 50+" by Thorne Research is a choice multiple of the vitamins and minerals without many separate bottles. Suggested dose is three capsules twice daily. (Obviously with 35 items per capsule, it takes more than one capsule daily.)
b. "21 Blend" by JoMar Labs is a mixture of all the amino acids. Suggest three of the tiny capsules twice daily.
c. Cold water fish oil supplies some of the two oil molecules that we don't make so well. A measured teaspoon of "Carlson's Lemon- Flavored Cod Liver Oil" twice daily is suggested. (You could take both once daily.) If you don't like the oil, it takes five large fish oil capsules to make a teaspoon full.
Yes. Those who do it live longer and healthier, but you don't need to go to a gym. Walking and gardening are helpful but not aerobic. A physician came up with a great idea, "dance." You can do it alone with no one watching and to your favorite music. Make some of it vigorous.
This is a highly important but complicated subject that can't be covered in depth here. One thing to point out is to have olive oil the only cooking oil you use. That makes a vast difference in health.
a. How much plaque has been deposited in your arteries? If your heart doesn't get its share of blood circulation, it will complain. That's unpleasant. The only two ways of measuring plaque (soft and calcified) is by ultrasound imaging of the carotid arteries or Digital Pulsewave Analysis. Plaque is removable, but statin drugs have a poor track record. Find your status. Knowledge is power!
b. Know your blood pressure and whether it's stable. High pressure can damage multiple organs and make it harder to stay healthy.
c. Blood viscosity (thickness) increases with age. That and plaque in arteries (atherosclerosis) make stroke more likely. There are two specific enzymes that slightly thin the blood and remove soft plaque from arteries. Get some medical advice about that and don't go it alone. Additionally, the measurements mentioned above tell when you've cleaned the arteries.
That's the term for the four to five pounds of intestinal bacteria that outnumber the human cells of the body. They are much smaller in individual size, but highly influential on the health of the body. Acidophilus and Bifidobacterium can be useful, but we've recently learned that they aren’t the major species present. A good balance of gut bacteria is best maintained by dietary attention, which is complicated beyond discussion here.
Alas! It isn't what it used to be. If low level infection is suspected or there is frequent infection, individual strategy is needed to prevent. But the higher levels of nutrients in the multiple mentioned above are helpful to immunity - selenium, vitamin E, chromium, carotenoids, vitamin C, and even melatonin used for sleep.
Almost all energy running the body's cells comes from mitochondria. Those tiny “organelles” (200 to 2,000 per cell) run everything.
While the mitochondria are somewhat hampered in every medical condition (meaning produce less energy to run things), we have learned that they are also less functional in those who are healthy but have just collected a lot of birthday candles.
So. dispose of the old ones and make new ones. This occurs with a natural material, Urolithin A, 500 mg once daily. Aside from making almost everything run better, an animal study showed they lived longer. However, as animals have shorter lifespans, it will take a while to know if that occurs in humans. But when you get to 100, you may suspect.
